Methodology

How the index is built — the same rules every day.

What is counted

Published miner listings on Endless Mining. Hosting plans, subscriptions, parts, power supplies and coolant are left out, as is anything without a stated hashrate and any listing our team has excluded as stale.

The headline index uses SHA-256 machines of 50 TH/s and up. Home and solo miners (Bitaxe, NerdQaxe, Avalon Nano and similar) appear in the model table but are kept out of the index, where their price per TH/s would distort it.

The unit

US dollars per TH/s of hashrate: the price divided by the machine's hashrate. Other algorithms use their own unit in the model table — Scrypt in GH/s, Etchash in MH/s, and so on.

Efficiency tiers

Next-gen below 15 J/TH, Current-gen 15–20 J/TH, Previous-gen 20–30 J/TH and Legacy at 30 J/TH or more. Efficiency is power draw divided by hashrate.

Asking index

Every day we record the list price of every live listing variant — the same price shown on the product page. Days are grouped into buckets (daily for 30 and 90 days, weekly for a year, monthly beyond). In each bucket a listing counts once, at its last price; the index is the median $/TH, shown with the middle half of listings (25th to 75th percentile). Buckets with fewer than three listings are dropped.

Sold index

Realized unit prices of miners sold: completed Endless Mining orders (payment captured, not cancelled) and historical orders from our previous store. Always monthly, as a median $/TH, and only for months with at least two sales. We publish monthly aggregates only — never an individual order.

Bitcoin and hashprice

Bitcoin is the daily closing price. Hashprice is what 1 PH/s earns per day: blocks per day × block reward × BTC price ÷ network hashrate in PH/s. The charted history excludes transaction fees; the live figure in the header includes them.

Models and market price

Listings are grouped into models from their title and specs (for example “Antminer S21 XP Hyd”), with hashrate variants of one family sharing a model; our team can correct a grouping.

A listing's market price is the median price per unit of its model (when at least three other listings exist) or else of its efficiency tier (at least five), times its own hashrate. That is the basis for “X% below market”.

Frequently asked questions

What does $/TH mean?

Dollars per terahash per second: a miner's price divided by its hashrate. It puts a $3,000 machine and a $6,000 machine on the same scale, so you can see which one buys more hashing power per dollar. Efficiency (J/TH) still matters, because it sets your power bill — that is why the index is also split by efficiency tier.

Why compare miner prices with the Bitcoin price?

A miner's value comes from the bitcoin it can earn, so hardware prices tend to follow BTC with a lag: when BTC rallies, demand for machines rises and asking prices follow; after a sell-off or a halving, prices fall. Charting both on one timeline shows whether miners look cheap or expensive relative to the coin they mine.

What is hashprice?

Hashprice is the revenue one petahash per second (1,000 TH/s) earns per day, in dollars. It combines the BTC price, the block reward and network difficulty into one number. Rising hashprice means every machine earns more; it is the most direct measure of mining revenue.

Why do asking and sold prices differ?

Asking prices are what sellers list at today; sold prices are what buyers actually paid, recorded monthly. Asking prices react faster but include optimistic listings; sold prices are slower but real. When the two lines diverge, the market is usually turning.

How often is the index updated?

Every day. A snapshot of every live listing is taken shortly after midnight UTC, Bitcoin and hashprice history update daily, and completed sales are added as they close. A weekly recap is published every Monday.

Can I get an alert when a miner gets cheaper?

Yes. Open any miner's page and use the price-drop alert in its price history to get an email when the price falls, or below a price you choose. You can manage your alerts from your account.

Can I use this data?

Yes, for free, with credit. The index is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0): you can embed the chart, quote the numbers, download the data and make your own charts — in articles, posts, research or news, commercial use included — as long as you credit Endless Mining and link to this page. The Share & cite tools under the chart give you an embed code that keeps our logo and link, ready-made citations (APA and BibTeX), a branded image of the chart and the data as CSV with the credit already in it.

Is this investment advice?

No. The index describes hardware prices on Endless Mining; it is not a forecast or a recommendation. Payback figures are snapshots at today's network conditions and change with BTC price, difficulty and your power cost.
